Abstract:

"The Missing One: A Psychoanalytical and Philosophical Study on Love" is a thesis study which is primarily about the examination of the phenomenon of love within perspectives based on psychoanalysis. This thesis is mainly a conceptual and theoretical study which utilizes disciplines like philosophy, psychology, psychiatry and history of medicine in addition to psychoanalysis. Although quantitative data are included in this study, mostly qualitative data have been used.The thesis mainly focuses on some ideas of the founder of the psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud and the famous French psychoanalyst and psychiatrist Jacques Lacan. At the same time the perspective of love of Erich Fromm has been also analyzed in detail. In addition, some other important names like Melanie Klein and Carl Jung have been also mentioned. In this context, various psychoanalytic concepts based on the origin of love and its emergence as a quest for an existential meaning along with a philosophical reflection study embedded in these concepts have been referred within this thesis study. In the light of psychoanalysis the phenomenon of love has been analyzed especially linguistically, culturally and theoretically. The existential origin, causes and consequences of love with the meaning also examined in this study.
