Biography

Begum Hamzaoglu is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Architectural Design Computing Graduate Program at Istanbul Technical University. She holds a master’s degree in Architectural Design Computing from ITU Institute of Informatics. For her M.Sc. thesis, she investigated a computational making method for carved stone patterns from medieval Anatolia. Her research interests include robotic tectonics, digital humanities, shape studies, visual computing, and craft theory. As a teaching assistant at ITU Faculty of Architecture, she has been involved in graduate and undergraduate level design studios and computational design courses since 2017. She has also run numerous workshops on computational making. Her current research focuses on bridging the knowledge across architectural heritage and fabrication technologies.
