Özet

MADARS (Malfunction Detection Analysis and Recording System):

 - Designed to aid flight crews and maintenance personnel in the detection and isolation of malfunctions

 - Monitors/records complex systems in the C-5. These test points include Engine Health, Central Air Data, Navigation, Warning, Automatic Flight Controls, Flight Augmentation, and many other critical systems.

MDCR (Maintenance Data Controller Recorder) is a portable ruggedized computer to be installed on a C-5 Aircraft. MDCR equipment is one of the state-of-the-art products of C-5 modernization effort.

The MDCR, functions as the data recorder for MADARS III, is a ruggedized Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) laptop station supported by a full-page printer and L-band Satellite Communications (SATCOM) device. These components replace the older C-5 Display Unit (DU), Controller, MDR, Print Out Unit (POU), and SATCOM Printer of MADARS. The upgrade software for the MDCR was developed in C/C++, Java, and XML.

MDCR laptop computer was modified as following:

1.A fixture is manufactured for installing the laptop on C-5 Aircraft. The laptop is directly fixed to the fixture (from back and from front).

2.There was a request to have a mechanical component to keep the display locked when it is installed. One peace of this component is attached to the middle of the display and the other side is attached to the top of the fixture designed to install the laptop.

3.The standard laptop computer came with a CD-ROM, but MDCR needed to have a DVD.
●
4.The CD-ROM (DVD) drive door had to be replaced because the hinges and pins of the original ones were too fragile and a modified door with screws that could easily be removed without a tool was needed. The original one had a pad between the door and CD-ROM. The new modified door did have space in between inside of the door and DVD.
