This paper summarizes the effect of nitrification on the experimental assessment of inert COD fractions. For this purpose, three different wastewater samples with high nitrogen contents are subjected to inert COD fractionation experiments. Tests are run on two sets; in one nitrification is suppressed by the use of inhibitors, in the other nitrification is permitted. Different levels of initially inert particulate GOD, initially inert soluble GOD, particulate and soluble microbial products are obtained when nitrification is allowed.
