Özet

This chapter addresses two main aspects of how the Storeroom group participants approached the notions of storage and water and what design and learning situations they experienced during the “See the Water” workshop at Istanbul Technical University. The design team has taken a theoretically critical approach to the fact that water is an invisible commodity today and discussed how the concept and action of storage could strengthen the bond between water and humans. Refusing to design a new storage space or product, it sought to answer the question of how existing stationary furniture and interior walls could be transformed into storerooms.

In opposition to the concept of storing water in the designed object or particular space, isolating it from living spaces and, by extension, from people, the notion of converting the space’s components into storage units can be defined as the central theoretical backdrop of the design team’s design process. In terms of design and learning, in light of the above-mentioned critical opinion produced by the participants as a result of their dialogs, the ways and methods in which they embodied their ideas during the workshop process were examined, and their interactions based on collaboration and cooperation working and learning modes were explained with reference to the literature. Within the context of design practice and the informal learning experiences of design-experienced master’s students, the type of actional experiences that emerged during the workshop’s process, which was based on dialog, critique, writing, drawing, and making, was discussed.
