Biography
Konstantinos Vasilakos (https://konvas.netlify.app) is a lecturer and interdisciplinary artist working in the milieu of Sonic Arts. He is based in Istanbul where he leads the Sonic Arts postgraduate studies path at the Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) at Istanbul Technical University. He is the founder of the Istanbul Coding Ensemble, a research group with postgraduate students focussing on collective improvisation using networked music systems and live coding. His performances span across various music paradigms from Algorave to Computer, and Electroacoustic music genres. His courses focus on the creation of interactive media for algorithmic composition. His research interests include sonification, new instruments for musical expression, and live coding with networked and collective systems. He is the author of numerous tailor-made software for multidisciplinary work involving real-time sound design such as IPSOS (http://ipsos.web.cern.ch/) and LTT (https://lick-the-toad.herokuapp.com/main/) using machine learning and neural networks, as well as sound installations and gestural interaction systems. His collaborations span across projects that stem from the ongoing dialogue between art and science, he has participated in various interdisciplinary projects such as ACROE-ICA, at Grenoble University and the European Organization for Nuclear Research, at CERN, in Switzerland. Furthermore, he is a member of the Hellenic Electroacoustic Music Composers Association, and a member of the Birmingham Ensemble for Electroacoustic Research, in the UK. He has a Ph.D. in music from Keele University, UK, and a master’s degree from the Utrecht School of Arts, in the Netherlands. Some of his works are presented in France, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and South America (Chile and Brazil).
