7th MEMTEK International Symposium on Membrane Technologies and Applications, İstanbul, Türkiye, 17 - 19 Ekim 2023, ss.256-266
In this study, different roofing materials (shingle, metal, clay) and different roof slopes (5Åã, 30Åã, 42Åã) were investigated for rainwater harvesting (RWH). Harvested rainwater (HRW) was characterized in order to determine the roof type and roof slope effect on the HRW quality. HRW from galvanized metal roofs was of higher quality in terms of turbidity and pathogen microorganisms. HRW was treated with the sequential ultrafiltration membrane and ultraviolet (UF+UV) disinfection system to meet the European Commission (EC) and United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) irrigation water standards. Overall results showed that the selection of suitable roof and treatment methods can be the key solution to achieving the set-up of effective RWH systems and rainwater reuse.
