In this study, we investigate a commercially available pectinase in terms of its potential as scouring agent for cotton. Our goal is to offer milder reaction conditions by using pectinase than those employed in alkaline scouring. In this study cotton fabric was scoured using pectinase and nonionic surfactant. We evaluated the effects of concentrations of enzyme, surfactant and treatment time on water absorbency, weight loss. We also studied the interaction effect between surfactant and pectinase also between the surfactant and treatment time. The results confirmed that it is possible to obtain an adequate absorbency at 40degreesC.
