The 21st century brings about coastal megacities experiencing gigantic demographic and spatial growth. This study handles Istanbul as a megacity which is examining a drastic coastal transformation due to the vast amount of coastal projects today. Indeed, it is not a pretty new issue for Istanbul to examine projects changing its coastline under the impact of urban development. Although such projects date back to 1960s, 1980s and the second half of the 2000s appear to be important breaking points which augment the volume and speed of this alteration process.
