Abstract

Information management in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has to guarantee that each staff member knows what he/she has to know in order to make patient treatment effective, safe and efficient. In this study, it is aimed to develop structures to support information transfer between patient treatment and resources in ICUs for typical patient treatment with several days duration, from the admission till the discharge. The six system layer of patient treatment model, which is a proposal to link patient treatment to resources, is used as a basis to improve information transfer structures in an ICU. The proposed information transfer model can support an efficient and safe information transfer between physicians and nurses during a patient treatment in an ICU.
