The second-order Volterra type decision feedback equalisation problem is visualised as a linear, multichannel equalisation problem. The input vector consists of the received, the main and the auxiliary previously detected signal samples. The elements of the multichannel desired signal vector are estimated from the completely orthogonalised input vector. A highly modular and flexible equaliser is designed so that extensions to higher-order equaliser development are straightforward.
