Internet of Things (IoT) devices are becoming more and more prominent in our everyday lives and have made their way into our homes. As with all technologies, security and privacy are key points to consider when designing and choosing to use IoT devices to make our homes smarter. However due to the complexity, heterogeneity, and the wide selection of the devices used, implementing security and privacy is highly difficult. This paper surveys and synthesizes the literature on security and privacy issues that arise in a smart home. The paper continues to survey studies conducted to mitigate these flaws.
