Obtaining Zinnwaldite Concentrate from Nepheline Syenite Rocks by Flotation Process

Abstract

In this study, it was investigated to obtain a zinnwaldite concentrate bearing high lithium content by flotation process from nepheline syenite rocks containing 216.3 ppm Li. According to chemical analysis, since zinnwaldite was found with biotite, dodecyl amine hydrochloride (DAHC) was chosen as collector in order to float zinnwaldite. The collector dosages, depressant dosages, the number and the conditions of cleaning circuits and the number of scavengers were studied with the aim of increasing the Li content. In conclusion, 75 g/t of DAHC as collector dosage, 30 g/t of MIBC (Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol) as frother dosage and 500 g/t of Na2SiO3(Sodium silicate) as depressant dosage were used in rougher flotation at pH 2.5. The conditioning time for depressant/collector and the flotation time were determine as 5 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minutes, respectively. One step of cleaning flotation and three steps of scavenger flotation have been chosen as the most suitable conditions of flotation process. In each scavenger circuits, 75 g/t of DAHC and 30 g/t MIBC were added into the pulp. The final zinnwaldite concentrate was containing 2500 ppm Li.
