Abstract

Having a measure in order to represent the heterogeneity of traffic patterns applied to switches will be a great achievement in the field of switching technology. By using such a measure, the performance of various switches that are tested under different traffic patterns can be compared. In this paper, a heterogeneity measure based on the entropy of the applied switch traffic pattern is proposed. The relationship between the throughput of various single/multiple stage switches and the entropy of the applied traffic patterns is evaluated.
