Dilovası, Gebze region of air pollution sources, is one of the locations where the highest level of Turkey’s air
pollution potential in terms of terrain and weather condition. In this region, industrial facilities, D-100 and E-80
highways and heavy traffic and residences lead to high air pollution levels as a result of the topography and
meteorological conditions of the region. In this COST project supported by TÜBİTAK, primarily the local and
temporal variations of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, CO, O3 and NOx concentrations generated by emissions from
pollutant sources in the Dilovası region will be examined. The relationship between these levels and
meteorological conditions will be investigated. Through the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, wind
vectors and wind areas will be determined throughout the year and the effects of topography on flows will be
investigated by simulations. In addition, simulations with WRF-Chem model will be used to analyze the
connections between emission sources and concentrations and to create alternative transport scenarios to reduce
air pollution in the Dilovası region. In this study, the first results of the work package “Analyzing Current Air
Pollution in Dilovası” of our project are presented.
