The present paper treats the relationship between strategic orientations and make/buy decisions pertaining to design/construction services for firms operating in the construction sector. The firm defines and redefines its boundaries within a network of contractual relationships, facing choices between market contracting, integration, and ''quasi-firm'' arrangements. The paper argues that the firm's strategic posture will influence the perceptions of contractual hazards associated with each option.
