Abstract

In electrical energy systems, reactive power is needed to reduce the losses, keep the voltage within acceptable limits, active power flow and reliable operation conditions. In this study, the technical and economical problems based on reactive power are being discussed, which have arisen in the reactive power supply after the Turkish electrical power system has been restructured and unbundled to generation companies, transmission company, and a number of distribution companies. Moreover, it is aimed to contribute to the formation of a reactive energy market by providing suggestions for the reactive power management and reactive power auxiliary service purchase in the Turkish electrical energy market during its deregulation process.
