Pyridinium salts undergo copper catalysed reduction in the presence of ascorbic acid. This system can be used for cationic ring opening polymerizations. The cationic polymerization of cyclohexene oxide, was studied using pyridinium salt/ascorbate redox couple. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
