7th MEMTEK INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS, İstanbul, Türkiye, 17 - 19 Ekim 2023, ss.57-64
Four alternatives (microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), coagulation with ferric chloride (FeCl3) and alum) were tested for post-treatment of the effluent of the high-rate activated sludge (HRAS) process. Ultra-violet irradiation (UV) was used for disinfection. UF membrane filtration + UV disinfection achieved Class A quality (according to the European Union minimum reclaimed water quality criteria) with the highest reclaimed water index (RWQI) value of 0.52. The operation cost of UF + UV was estimated as 5.3 €cents/m3. Other alternatives produced Class B quality reclaimed water. The lowest operation cost (3.8 €cents/m3) was estimated for coagulation with FeCl3 + UV disinfection with RWQI of -0.17.
