Özet

This article refers to a novel approach concerning the District Heating (DH) and District Cooling (DC) technology, starting with the present-day situation, when bio energy is expected to replace fossil generated energy. It reflects on the basic features of district heating and district cooling and on the ways the systems are expected to evolve throughout their subsequent stages of development - showing why they are key infrastructures for a resource efficient European energy system; both of today and of the future, under the circumstances of controlling the CO2 emission. District heating and cooling provide a flexible infrastructure able to integrate a wide range of (renewable) energy sources on large scale.
