Abstract

The aim of the present work is to investigate the mechanical behaviour of orthotropic masonry subjected to localised loads in the context of both 'implicit'/'weak' and 'explicit' rstrong' non-local continuum models. To look for possible correspondences and differences, the solutions of Cosserat (micropolar) and integral form of Eringen models, obtained by employing finite element method, are compared. The resulting displacement and stress fields highlight the diffusive character of micropolar model, and the capability of Eringen model in avoiding stress singularities. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
