Abstract

This paper presents the application of the air blasting system at Zonguldak colliery. In Zonguldak, the application of sublevel caving with air-blast techniques has begun first in 1992 and still in use, This method utilizes the power of pressurized air to excavate the steeply dipping hard coal seams and the high-pressure air blast system with sublevel caving method has in compare to the classical methods important advantages on economical and geological basis. This paper presents the geological and operational properties of the system.
