Traces amounts of Cr(IV) have been enriched from aqueous solutions by exchange of Cr(VI) on melamin-formaldehyde resin. The exchange capacity increased at lower pH values. The material was used to preconcentrate very efficiently. Cr(VI) from 0.1 mug mL-1 solutions of chromate. After the Cr(VI) adsorbed on the column is eluted it is analysed by atomic absorption spectrometry and virtually 100% recovery was achieved in every instance. The effect of other anions was exammined and it was observed that the absorption of Cr(VI) was not affected significantly by the presence of other anions.
