In this paper, the design and implementation considerations of a large-capacity three-phase power transformer operating at 7.5MVA are investigated. Both of the silicon steel core and amorphous core are considered. Based on the measured magnetic properties, it is obtained that the lowest core loss occurs under the circumstance annealed at 360 degrees C. Some practical considerations about the transformer design and core manufacturing are explained in detail. Experimental results illustrate that the amorphous-cored transformer has lower core loss than the counterpart of conventional silicon steel core transformer.
