Abstract

Flotation methods have a broad usage area in the beneficiation of ultrafine size minerals. Column flotation techniques have been used to obtain high grade concentrates. In order to evaluate the chromite tailings totaling approximately 1.5 million tons that belong to Eti Electrometallurgy A.S, Uckopru Chrome Company a joint effort was carried out between Eti Holding A.S., BGR (Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources- Federal Republic of Germany) and Istanbul Technical University. A Research Pilot Plant(ca: 5 tons/h) consisting of attritional scrubbing, sizing, wet magnetic separation and column flotation units was installed.. The aim of this plant is to produce chromite concentrate with 45 % Cr2O3 and 60 % recovery.
