Özet

Intrinsic modes (IM) are used to describe wave propagation through linearly tapered homogeneous dielectric slab waveguides. First, we consider a general weakly non-separable two-dimensional waveguide and outline a systematic procedure for the construction of the IM spectral integral through the generalization of the adiabatic mode fields, This technique is applied to obtain IM explicitly in the two-dimensional wedge considering cartezian coordinates as the frame of reference. Then, the IM formulation is utilized in analysing the propagation through a section of linearly tapered optical film and the results of numerical calculations are presented, together with independently generated comparison solutions obtained via the beam propagation method (BPM).
