Abstract

The polymerization of acrylonitrile was studied in aqueous sulfuric acid medium with the redox initiator system citric acid-ceric ion. The effect of ceric ion, citric acid and sulfuric acid concentrations and of temperature on the monomer conversion and average molecular weights of the polymer was investigated. A polymerization mechanism is suggested.
