Map-making has been developed as an empirical activity, which claims objectivity, to form and fix the knowledge of a place. Yet, the act of mapping appears today as an alternative to map-making in order to rethink about the relationship between people and place. Mapping refers less to a stable representation than a performance, in which the maker, place, andthe product redefine, reposition and reproduce each other in the process. In contemporary architecture, mapping may allow developing a sensitive and critical understanding of place, which is continuously created through the existence, experiences, and design activities of people. In this text, my aim is to point out that mapping offers possibilities for understanding the city and for critical participation in the existing production processes in the city.
