Abstract

Among the engineering materials, one of the most important attempts, while maintaining or improving the products' features, has been the achievement of lightweight cost-effective materials and, in the light of foaming, these attempts became successful especially in the field of polymer engineering. By controlling the density and cell size of the plastic foam products, manufactured through mainly extrusion, injection molding, and bead foaming technologies, a wide range of engineering materials could be developed for a wide range of committee, engineering, and high-performance applications. These attempts were initiated by producing conventional and fine-cell foam structure products and have been proceeded by the development of innovative series of high-performance microcellular and nanocellular plastic foams for advanced applications with high-performance criteria requirements while reducing materials usage, saving energy, and helping environment and many other superior advantages.
