Abstract

The paper is about the design of a synchronous reluctance motor for the general purpose applications. The design will be particularly on the rotor side and a multi parameter approach will be used to reach a design layout. 4 pole, 2,2 kW machine have designed and manufactured. At the beginning the design the rotor parameters are examined and considered in terms of manufacturing limits as well. The parameter for the rotors are chosen as the number of the flux barriers, the thickness of the outer rib, the shape of the barriers, the thickness of the barrier, the air gap effect, the isolation ratio. At last the performance characteristics of the reluctance motor are presented. The efficiency map of the machine based on finite elements analysis is also reported. Saturation effects are taken into account.
