Synoptic approaches are important to understand the
mechanisms of fog formation in fog investigations. In this study, the fog event
occurred between 00:00 UTC and 23:00 UTC on November 5, 2015 at the Sabiha
Gökçen International Airport was analyzed synoptically and compared with METAR
and SPECI reports. The synoptic events, especially on the local scale, such as
fog, are affected by in the topography of the region and other physical
conditions. Due to the fog incident that took place at Sabiha Gökçen International
Airport, first, the visibility has decreased from 10,000 meters to 1,000 meters
in a period of 2 hours. The minimum visibility measured throughout the day was
100 meters. Observation of two effective high pressure centers in the region
resulted in the presence of a stable atmospheric structure and the formation of
fog
