This study presents a quantitative model to determine the optimum locations of new universities by taking into consideration the socio-economic characteristics of university sites and demand points. Values of such variables as site attractiveness and the socio-economic status of demand points are investigated using principal component analysis. The model estimates the distribution of demand at each demand point for university sites as well as the total student potential at each university site. With respect to the existing university cities, all combinations of the proposed university sites are tested. The combined sites drawing the maximum number of students are chosen as the optimum locations for new universities.
