Özet

In this article, the extent to which BIM is used effectively in the construction sector in Turkey is examined through a field research conducted by Azarlar (Çileli and Taş, 2020).  Since the design phase is the stage where vital decisions are made about construction projects, the scope of the field research was determined as the design phase. Architectural offices using BIM were identified as the target group and 11 design offices with a BIM team were identified due to the low number of offices using BIM in Turkey. Semi-structured interviews were completed with one person working in each office. Since there is no local official guideline or document published about BIM in Turkey, the A-295 general specification was utilized. The A-295 general specification was published by the American Institute of Architect (AIA) and is a document that specifies the stakeholders and the actions to be completed by the stakeholders to cover the design and construction phase in projects using BIM.  In the interview form, the actions identified for the design phase in the A-295 general specification were listed. For each phase of the design phase, 51 actions were identified. Out of these 51 actions, 9 were for schematic design, 17 for final design, 14 for implementation design and 11 for tender documents. In the projects realized with BIM in Turkey, it was asked by which stakeholders these actions were completed and the results obtained were used to determine the actions for the design phase in the A-295 general specification.
