Abstract

During strenuous body activities, feeling dry on the skin is very important for comfort and health. Absorbency properties of a filament developed to absorb water vapor without creating a wet feeling were examined. The filament is composed of two parts the outer part (hydrophobic polypropylene) and the inner part (hydrophilic super absorbent polymer). It was observed that although 100% polypropylene fabric does not absorb any vapor, a fabric with 14% super absorbent polymer absorbs 22% (of total fabric weight) of water vapor per day. An increase in the duration of the absorption test and an increase in the amount of super absorbent polymer in the filament led to an increased absorption percentage. Fabric produced from this filament was also tested for different cleaning processes.
