The largest share in energy consumption for mining activities belongs to size
reduction processes. AG/SAG mills, which are among the grinders that make fine size
reduction; They are the equipment with the highest size reduction ratio, where crushing,
grinding and washing are done together. For the effective use of this type of mill, some design
tests must be carried out. The most important parameter for a good AG/SAG mill design is ore
hardness. As a result of the absence of the hardest ore in the sample taken, real results cannot
be obtained in the test to be performed. Therefore, the design will also fail.
Within the scope of this thesis, research and evaluations were made on the SAG Gritability
Index Test (SGI) procedure, which is frequently used in AG/SAG mill design and is relatively
easy to apply, the evaluation of the test results and the mill design calculations in which the
length and diameter ratios are determined, and its compatibility with other alternative tests.
