This study was performed in order to investigate earlier predictability of this phenomenon. Within the scope of the research, radar products and lightning observations were used as nowcasting tools. Also, the sea surface temperatures measured by the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) in the Marmara Sea were also evaluated. The result is that a thunderstorm and its intensity can be estimated from approximately 42 minutes to 57 minutes in advance. This is an important topic of study in order to provide more consistent results when preparing forecasts issued by airport meteorological office.
