We study the dynamics of cascading failures in complex networks. We then propose the congestion model where failed nodes will be regarded as congested nodes. In order to compare with the node removal models, four defense algorithms using in the node removal models are applied to congestion model. Based on the simulation and analysis, we conclude that previous models with node removal overestimates the affect of cascading failure while congestion model is more suitable for Internet-like environment in the complex networks.
