Abstract

In this study, a series resonant converter is designed in order to improve power generation capability of surface mounted permanent magnet generator over a wide speed range while considering the current limits of the machine. A simple and mostly accurate design approach for the series resonant converter has been developed by considering the dynamic characteristics of the surface mounted permanent magnet generator under variable speed operation. The proposed converter and design approach tested by the simulations for low and high generator speeds. The simulation results verify that the proposed approach works well especially for heavy load conditions both at low and high generator speeds.
