Abstract

In this study area, surface mining operations have affected the natural ecosystem and also the coastal line. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the northern section of European Istanbul land cover characteristics using multitemporal Landsat TM scenes. In the classification procedure involved the Landsat TM data are classified using the unsupervised ISODATA technique. After the classification process, a pair of these images was compared pixel by pixel 1984-1992, 1984-1992, 1984-1997,1984-2001 periods using a post-classification comparison technique.
