Özet

Photobioreactors (PBRs) have been increasingly studied as a means of cultivating photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae in a controlled environment for various industrial applications, including biofuels, food, and medicine. Recently, there has been growing interest in the potential use of PBRs in interior spaces for both aesthetic and functional purposes. This study aims to review the current state of research on the functional use of PBRs in interiors and explore their potential applications.

PBRs are enclosed systems that allow for the controlled growth of microorganisms under optimal conditions. They offer several advantages over traditional methods of microalgae cultivation, including higher productivity, greater control over environmental factors, and the ability to use wastewater as a nutrient source. At the same time, it has the potential to improve air quality in indoor environments, reduce carbon dioxide levels and provide a sustainable source of food and energy.

The use of PBRs on an architectural scale offers the possibility to create aesthetically appealing and functional designs. Therefore, PBRs can serve both as a decorative element indoors and as a functional system to produce biomass or generate energy, making them a multi-functional tool. Moreover, the application of PBRs indoors brings the advantage of lower operating costs and energy consumption compared to their outdoor counterparts. Consequently, they have the potential to be an effective solution for a sustainable and visually appealing design in a variety of architectural settings.

Thus, this research highlights the potential benefits of using PBRs in interiors for both functional and aesthetic purposes. By examining the current state of research and design on PBRs, this study provides insight into the potential applications of PBRs in various industries and architectural settings, emphasizing the importance of sustainable design and the need for innovative solutions to address environmental challenges.
