Abstract

Shape optimization, as the process of optimum design of an object for required functionality, is a complex inverse problem which involves comprehensive numerical computations including procedures for computer-aided design, analysis and optimization. The process can sometimes be based on specialized all-inclusive applications, but this paper develops a numerical workflow that implements and manages existing software packages for computer-aided design, finite element analysis and numerical optimization. With the custom programs and procedures developed in this paper by using the Windows Communication Foundation, C# and .net to operate the workflow, it provides a low-cost platform for optimum design of shape.
