The optical absorption spectra of the radical cations(~)[GRAPHICS](~)were recorded and their reactivity toward several compounds [denoted below in terms of rate constants k2 in (L/mol s)] was measured. n-Butyl vinyl ether (BVE) reacts very rapidly with I+. (4.4x10(9)) and II+. (5.9x10(9)). Cyclohexene oxide (CHO), methanol (MeOH) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) are less reactive (10(6) - 10(7)). Apart from its reaction with BVE, I+. is more reactive than II+.: k2(H2O): 3.8x10(6) (I+.) and 9.3x10(5) (II+.), k2(MeOH): 1.1x10(7) (I+.) and 1.4x10(6) (II+.).
