The floor acceleration demands in multistory buildings response as elastic when it is subjected to earthquake ground motion. In this paper, an approximate method is proposed in order to estimate these floor acceleration demands at any floor level. The dynamic characteristics of the building are investigated by using an approximated model combining a flexural beam and a shear beam. Finite difference method with forward difference is used to estimate the acceleration demands in the building with non-uniform stiffness along height.
