Biography

Dr. Hülya Cebeci obtained her B.Sc. degrees in Astronautical Engineering and from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2003 and she obtained her M.Sc. degree in Polymer Science and Technology Program from ITU in 2006. She started her PhD. in Interdisciplinary Programme of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering at İTÜ. During her PhD. studies, she was a visiting student in the Technology Laboratory for Advanced Materials and Structures in Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She worked under supervision of Prof. Brian L. Wardle (MIT) on “Multifunctional Properties of Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotube Polymer Nanocomposites” between 2007-2010. The research was focused on using new nanotechnology methods to implement carbon nanotubes into composites for creating nano-engineered material structures for aerospace applications. Along these studies, she collaborated with many other groups from MIT (Prof. Karen Gleason-MIT) and other universities (Prof. Qiming Zhang-Penn State University and Prof. A. John Hart-Michigan University) as well. The research was funded by Nano-Engineered Composite Structures (NECST) Consortium having partners as Boeing, EADS/Airbus, Ansys, Embraer, Lockheed Martin, Saab AB, Composite Systems Technology, Hexcel, and Toho Tenax.

Dr. Cebeci has obtained her PhD in 2011 and she has been working as an Assistant Professor in ITU Aeronautical Engineering department since 2013. She is currently affiliated with ITU Aerospace Research Center (ARC) and MIT NECST Lab. Her main research interests are nano-engineered composites, smart and multifunctional structures, nanomaterial synthesis, and structural health monitoring. She has given two invited talks and she is the author of over 60 peer reviewed journal articles, technical reports and conference publications in these subjects. Her studies resulted with 3 patents and she has been involved in several projects supported by Roketsan, Turkish Aerospace Industry, Boeing, Safran and Roketsan as project leader. She is a Technical Committee member of Materials and Structures of AIAA and a member of MRS.
